Great job Bruce! Just to be complete, he also wrote several short novels in chinese with Mongolia as backgroud: “Northern Rivers” translated in french (and probably in english) FLP Panda 1992; and “My beautiful black horse”, translated in french in 1995 and available with Editions Philippe Picquier.

What strikes me is the longing to be part of a different culture, or at least a different place. Typically I encounter this with Western Hispanophiles, but obviously it is not a unique phenomenon. The other interesting thing to note is the usual association of Andalusia and flamenco in particular with passion. I am curious how he questions these ideas as he seems to and which can become a bit of a cliche.
